The German Coalition for Patient Safety calls on all healthcare facilities to take part in the
World Patient Safety Day on 17th September 2020. Get involved and join this campaign!
No one should be harmed in healthcare – this principle applies always, also in the Time of Coronavirus.
It is important that the care of the acutely ill and chronically ill are not forgotten or delayed. All patients must be cared for according to their medical needs and the population should be adequately informed about the treatment provided. Everything must be done to prevent coronavirus deaths but at the same time, years of life and quality of life must not be lost due to canceled, postponed or avoided healthcare provision.
Your topics and projects on patient safety at all levels are therefore welcome and can be presented here.

World Patient Safety Day thrives on participation. Together with you and your organization, we would like to raise awareness amongst the public for important issues related to patient safety on 17th September 2020.

Purpose and Topics
Healthcare organisations, institutions, academic organisations, companies, patient organisations – all are invited to participate in this day with their activities and ideas, for example:
// Presentation of effective solutions to improve quality and safety in health care
// Raising awareness amongst the public and media on key issues relating to patient safety
// Information on activities in hospitals, care homes and general practice
// Information for patients on how they can contribute to their own safety
The campaign is an initiative of the German Coalition for Patient Safety, Aktionsbündnis Patientensicherheit e.V. (APS), and took place for the first time on the 10th anniversary of the APS in 2015. The Swiss Foundation for Patient Safety and the Austrian Platform for Patient Safety joined the idea at the time so it was a multi-country day of patient safety right from the start.

WHO campaign
SINCE 2019 PATIENT SAFETY IS A GLOBAL HEALTH PRIORITY.
In May 2019 194 countries came together to establish 17 September as WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY at the 72nd World Health Assembly. Since 2019 the World Health Organization spotlights patient safety every year to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and spur global solidarity and action.
The World Patient Safety Day builds on a successful series of Global Ministerial Summits on Patient Safety pioneered in 2016 at London as well as relentless advocacy by leaders from all sectors — politicians, patient champions, patient safety experts and global public health leaders. The establishment of an annual World Patient Safety Day will give an opportunity to providers, seekers and managers of health care services to join a platform and express solidarity and compassion to make health care safer. The origin of the day is firmly grounded in the fundamental principle of medicine – First, to do no harm.

The COVID-19 pandemic has unveiled the huge challenges and risks health workers are facing globally including health care associated infections, violence, stigma, psychological and emotional disturbances, illness and even death. Furthermore, working in stressful environments makes health workers more prone to errors which can lead to patient harm. FSP magazine – patient safety in Chile and South America with reference to the patient safety alliance in Germany
Our partner organization "Fundación para la Seguridad del Paciente CHILE" gives in the publication "Revista Chilena de Seguridad del Paciente Vol3 N2 2020" many insights into topics related to patient safety in Chile and on the South American continent. One focus of this issue of the magazine is dealing with Covid-19 in the context of patient safety and the protection of health care workers, which is the motto of the WHO World Patient Safety Day 2020.
